Come Prepared

What Do I Need to Bring?

Winter Wear

Cold weather winter wear including hats/toques, good gloves (preferably with a pocket for a hand warmer), warm boots (CSA certified ideal but not required), and perhaps a scarf or neck warmer. Dress in layers — we'll be in and out of the freezer.

Food & Hydration

Pack a light lunch and some snacks and be sure to bring a water bottle. You don't realize how much fluid you lose from your body when working in the cold.

A Great Attitude

Ice carving is cold, hard work but with a great attitude and a lust for learning and creating you won't even notice the cold. This one attribute is what makes the difference between those that fall in love with ice sculpture and those that are happy to have just tried something new.

Safety First

Important Safety Notes

Physical Requirements

Tool Safety

Ice carving involves the use of sharp tools and power equipment, so safety is paramount. This program emphasizes safe carving practices first and foremost.
