Carving

Art as entertainment. Power tools, flying snow, and a finished masterpiece — all in front of your guests.

The Craft

But It All Starts With the Chainsaw

As the artist I can tell you that the real beauty of ice sculpture comes through with each smooth, skillful stroke of the finishing chisels. Facets of refraction reveal themselves through the ice. The unique life of each piece emerges, one chisel stroke at a time.

It never fails. The most intricate, beautiful details of all ice sculpture can't hold a chisel to the lure created by the blizzard of snow flying off the end of the chainsaw as block after block of waste material crashes to the ground revealing the shapes of what's to come.

During a performance carving, power tools trump finesse and precision. Just watch for falling ice. Even we carvers take a tumble sometimes! (It's slippery when you step on it!)

The Experience

Art as Entertainment

There's more to this than just the finished ice sculpture. Performance carving is an art unmatched by all but the most out of control group of preschoolers in the paint flinging booth. Power tools herald the attention of guests and passers-by and enchant them with sprays of snow as the ice sculpture emerges more with every cut.

Combine this with a fun loving, witty carver who loves convincing little ones that they can take bits home to put under their pillows and you have an event demonstration that leaves behind a work of art to remember it by.

Most events require the finished piece to be...well, finished when the event begins. But for those special opportunities where we get to carve while the guests arrive, an absolutely unique experience awaits. And it's catching on.

Several festivals where we used to provide finished art for the event dates have changed tack so that we can be on-site with the tools cutting, grinding and shaving to the delight of all who attend.

Don't worry. My juggling act is still a little rough around the edges so I leave it at home.
